Low-water bridges in Centurion reopened
While mud from the roads had been cleared, councillor Ina Strijdom said that the metro would start cleaning the rubble against the riverbanks and bridge railings.

Some low-water bridges in Centurion affected by mud and debris after heavy rains in early February have been reopened following a clean-up project.
Teams in Clubview and Hennops Park were deployed to clear roads at low-lying water crossings, and have made the crossings safe for vehicles, although debris still has to be cleared from barriers and water channels.
Councillor Ina Strijdom confirmed that the roads have been reopened, adding that “the metro will start cleaning the rubble against the riverbanks and bridge railings”.

Strijdom thanked local volunteers and the Hennops Revival team for assisting in the clean-up process.
The Hennops Revival project has been working tirelessly to clean up the debris that accumulated after the flooding, with 399 bags of trash cleared on February 24 alone.
During the heavy rains, at least two cars were washed away at low-lying bridges as motorists ignored physical barriers and warning tape.
Tshwane emergency services deputy-chief Charles Mabaso said that his department had repeatedly called for motorists to practice caution when they encounter flooded roads.
“Our repeated calls on motorists to desist from crossing flooded low-water bridges and ignoring barriers used to close roads during flooding seem to fall on deaf ears because we still see vehicles being washed away at regular spots,” said Mabaso.
He reminded residents to dial the toll-free number 107 to report a fire or any life-threatening emergency.
Following heavy rains across the country, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster on February 13 as flooding devastated seven provinces.
