Criminals in the north of Pretoria had nowhere to escape the police at the weekend.

Tshwane police district commissioner Azwinndini Nengovhela said 374 suspects were arrested during several crime prevention operations in Sinoville and Kameeldrift.

“The purpose of this crime prevention operation is to show zero tolerance towards crime and to show high visibility in identified hotspots,” he said.

He said Gauteng traffic police, Tshwane metro police, home affairs, Sinoville CPF and various SAPS stations in Tshwane participated in the operation that resulted in arrests including for murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.

He said detectives executed 297 arrests with 23 of them relating to gender-based violence.

During the operation, 1089 persons and 193 vehicles were searched, 80 Aarto traffic infringement notices were issued to the value of R53 250 and 10 persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He said 37 undocumented immigrants were arrested as well as 12 people for drinking in public.

Ten liquor premises were visited, two of which closed down and 108 770ml of liquor was confiscated and will be destroyed.

Nengovhela thanked all the dedicated members for their ongoing enthusiasm to serve their communities.

Twenty-five members of the Sinoville CPF took part in the operation to assist law enforcement agencies and increase manpower.
