After escaping death in a hit-and-run incident earlier this year, Sasha, the 20-month-old bull terrier, is well on her way to recovery with the assistance of the Wetnose animal rescue centre.
Wetnose is a registered right-to-life organisation that rescues and rehabilitates animals, established in 1999 and cares for over 500 animals until they find a forever home.
Sasha’s accident was brought to the organisation after it was called out to the scene in Bronkhorstspruit where a man was comforting a blood-soaked bull terrier covered with a refuse bag.
The animal rescue centre reported that Sasha was involved in a hit-and-run where the motorist kept driving, dragging her behind the car until she was lodged in the wheel arch.
“When the driver couldn’t drive any further they stopped and took off the wheel, pulled her out and left the scene.
“Our inspectors picked her up carefully and did not leave her side, keeping her calm back to our clinic.

“We raced her to x-rays under the suspicion that she must have broken bones. To our astonishment there were none but she sustained deep wounds to her body that would require surgery, however no internal damage or breaks were recorded.”
The owner was tracked down the same day and was informed that Sasha had run out of the gate during a thunderstorm.
She added that Sasha was nearly put to sleep because of a health problem with her back causing her pain but at Wetnose animal clinic she got the help and treatment she needed to live a comfortable life.
Sasha has no trace of scarring and her leg is recovering well.
