Moot police bust eight wanted suspects
The suspects were arrested for crimes including house break-ins, theft, fraud, negligent driving and intimidation.
Moot police detectives arrested eight wanted suspects in various parts of Pretoria during an operation that began in the early hours of Monday morning.
“At least eight people were apprehended and arrested as the day ended,” police spokesperson Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot said.
According to Lightfoot, the suspects were arrested for various crimes including housebreaking, theft, fraud, negligent driving, intimidation and failing to appear in court after having been granted bail.
He said the police’s success was a result of hard work that was performed diligently by the station’s detectives.
He said the operation saw the police taking to the streets in a “bloodhound” style as they followed leads that took them to various addresses all over the city.
“All arrested suspects had active warrants of arrest that were still pending on their names. Most of these warrants were issued by the court because some failed to appear in court. In other words, they have been arrested or at least summoned previously to appear in court and have failed to do so.”
Lightfoot said suspects who violate their bail conditions would find it difficult to be granted bail again.
“The suspects who violate their bail conditions may face an additional charge of contempt of court.”
He commended the police detectives for their success, saying that it proves that “nobody is above the law”.
