Three arrested in Centurion with elephant tusks

The three men were arrested after the Hawks received information about suspicious activity in the area.

The Hawks arrested three men in Irene, Centurion, for possession of elephant tusks.

Hawks spokesperson Llyod Ramovha said investigators followed up on a tip-off regarding suspicious activity on Sunday afternoon, March 12.

The investigators surveilled the location before they confronted the suspects.

Two elephant tusks were found and the men were arrested.

The three – Ratshilumela Sadam Tshishonga (31), David Muhoma (39) and Tapiwa Agripa Chikomo (35) – appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Tuesday for illegal possession and trading in elephant tusks.

Ramovha said the men were remanded in custody.

“Their next appearance will be on March 23 for a bail application,” he said.
