Spin and weave artist at Marnuk Weaving Studios’ annual art exhibition
To date Marthinus Höll remains the only designer in South Africa who spins and weaves his client’s own materials and then makes their jackets.
There has been a renewal in the creative arts in Pretoria in the past two years.
This was according to renowned artist Marthinus Höll, who exhibited his art at the Marnuk Weaving Studio’s annual art exhibition at the Marnuk Estate in Pretoria.
“The art galleries in Pretoria are very busy and people are purchasing smaller items due to space constraints.”
Höll is one of the more experienced fashion designers in South Arica with a track record of more than half a century in the creative sector.
He first came to Pretoria in 1971 where he studied at the University of Pretoria in BA Fine Arts. After his studies, he went on to become a fashion designer.
Höll’s clientele is not only based in the country, but is spread across the entire globe.
He told Rekord that his main inspiration was to create something that was out of this world that has never been created before.
Höll said that gave him the satisfaction of knowing that his client’s product won’t be sold anywhere else in the world.
The legendary artist went further to say that it was up to an individual to take what God had given them and turn it into something very unique and magnificent.
“I am very much inspired by nature and colour. I love the feeling of natural products in my hands,” he said.
In addition, he said art has always been his passion, adding that that was the reason why he always holds his annual art exhibition once a year to remind himself of where he comes from artistically.
To date, Höll remains the only designer in South Africa who spins and weaves his client’s own materials and then makes their jackets.
Sophia du Bruin from Montana said there were few creatives in the country that she could think of that can spin and weave their client’s material and still design stunning items on top of that.
“Marthinus is the reason I am here, he is undoubtedly one of the best creatives we’ve ever had in the country,” Du Bruin said.
