Kool 2B South African and relevant stakeholders recently visited the statue of the late former president Nelson Mandela at the Union Buildings to commemorate the 29th anniversary of his historic election.
Learners from Jafta Mahlangu high school and local youths accompanied the NGO as it paid its respects to the iconic freedom fighter on the day he was elected president 29 years ago.
“After a wonderful and patriotic launch of the Freedom and Flag appreciate week (April 20-30) we wanted to sustain the momentum. So with May 1 being so important in our South African history, we wanted to pay tribute to this beloved icon and father of our nation,” said the founder of the NGO, Khaya “Kool” Seoketsa.

The stakeholders plan to plant an appreciation tree grown at a nearby tree farm soon in honour of Mandela. They also plan to plant similar trees around schools, tertiary institutions, malls and other public spaces in honour of other freedom fighters as well.
“Our intention is to make a call for public observation of the day so we must never forget where we come from and be reminded to protect the gains we enjoy from our freedom and democracy while celebrating Africa’s greatest icon,” Seoketsa continued.
The NGO also recently wrapped up its freedom appreciation week with a visit to central Pretoria this past Worker’s Day (May 1).

In partnership with the national sports, arts and culture department and Waltloo Meat and Chicken in the CBD, they handed out free boerewors rolls and cupcakes to the locals.
