Two ‘copper thieves’ arrested during police operation
The copper recovered was of an estimated value of R20 000.

Central police arrested two men suspected of stealing copper cable and business burglary during a recent multidisciplinary operation.
The two men with their three accomplices, were caught by security at the Public Works building on the corner of Bosman and Pretoria streets in the act of cutting cables.
“The police were called on to the scene and detained the two, aged 33. The copper recovered was of an estimated value of R20 000,” said spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise.
The police said that the weekend operation was to address crime within the CBD and the policing precinct.
“The sole purpose was to address by-law compliance, cracking down on illegal secondhand goods, promoting crime prevention and awareness as well as combatting crime,” Nkhumise continued.

Forty-seven other arrests were made for crimes including three for shoplifting, two for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), one for tampering with essential infrastructure, one for possession of dagga, four for driving under the influence of alcohol and one for pointing a firearm.
Thirty-three illegal immigrants were also taken into custody.
Other stakeholders involved in the effort were the Department of Home Affairs and the TMPD.
Station commander Brigadier MM Dladla was very pleased with the successful outcome and further thanked the various security roleplayers for assisting the police in fighting crime.
He further acknowledged the efforts of the police, CPF and the newly appointed crime prevention wardens.
Tracing of the suspects that got away is still underway.
All arrested suspects have since appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court.
