Fourway stop at dangerous intersection in Amberfield Manor
Amberfield Manor estate manager says she is happy with the metro’s service, but warns motorists to adhere to road signs at the brand new fourway stop.
A brand new fourway stop was installed at a dangerous intersection in Amberfield Manor.
In February, Rekord reported that Rooihuiskraal residents near the Reddersburg/Lenchen crossing in front of Amberfield Manor estate feared for their lives when trying to cross the busy road in peak-hour traffic.
Resident Esna Killian said at the time, “It is a nightmare in which you wonder every morning and some afternoons if it is your turn today to become part of the accident statistics at this crossing”.
In 2016, the road ended at Amberfield Manor, so residents had no need for concern.
But in 2017, work began on a bridge crossing the Rietspruit River, and in 2019 when it was completed, motorists trying to cross Lenchen Road realised the danger at the intersection as the road became a busy connection to the Old Johannesburg road.
ESTATE MANAGER HAPPY WITH RESULT
Amberfield Manor estate manager, Debbie Heunis was happy with the result after spending months trying to get assistance at the intersection.
“I requested a traffic queue survey from the Tshwane metro.
“Then Chris Strydom from the metro came out on May 9, and the next week they came in to start doing the work,” said Heunis.
By May 24, the work at the intersection was finally completed.
“They even painted all the lines again for us up and down the street, its so neat and nice. We wanted to compliment the city for the work that they did here.”
Heunis said that the intersection felt safer to cross.
However, she was concerned that some motorists ignore the newly installed traffic signs and markings.
“We had an accident because someone skipped the stop street last week Friday. A lady skipped the stop, and she crashed into a Gautrain bus. She had some injuries and her car was written off.”
But Heunis said that the residents felt much safer in peak traffic times.
She said those needing to cross the intersection had an easier time getting into and out of the area.
She had a message for motorists using Lenchen/Reddersburg intersection: “Please adhere to it, it is there now. We wanted to get the word out that it is there and to be aware that you need to stop at the intersection”.
