Sadag launches support group for men
The South African Depression & Anxiety Group says it believes men suffering from loss do not receive enough support from society.
In the recent addition to its online support groups, Sadag has introduced one for men dealing with grief.
SA Depression & Anxiety Group says it believes men suffering loss do not receive enough support from society.
“Grief knows no boundaries, yet society tends to overlook the experiences and needs of men who have lost a loved one,” says representative, Jane Mashava.
“Losing a loved one can be an incredibly challenging and isolating experience. Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive space guided towards the unique needs of men facing loss.”
Sadag says that it welcomes the launch of the online men’s grief and bereavement support group, which starts June 7 at 19:00.
“By introducing this group, we aim to break the silence surrounding men’s grief and provide a compassionate environment where participants can share their stories, find solace and heal together.”
Support group leader Jonathan Govender says that the group aims to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for men to deal with and process grief, in a healthy way.
“We will meet once a month, online, where we can reflect on our progress regularly. Our support group provides unconditional positive regard, as each one is an expert in their own journey,” Jonathan remarks.
If you are a guy going through grief or you know someone interested in joining this support group, please contact Jonathan on 083 230 0007. For information on other support groups, visit www.sadag.org, call 0800 21 22 23 or SMS 31393 to speak to a counsellor.
