Local art studio returns to its Pretoria roots

The opening was attended by local and international artists whose artworks were also on display.

The event was held at Unit 7, Ridge Square on 162, Lynnwood, Die Wilgers, a first for Bont Huijs.

Werner Bonthuys of Bont Huijs said the store just moved from Hyde Park to this new location and sells upmarket studio art, sculptures and specialist marble fireplaces.

“After 10 years in Johannesburg, Bont Huijs has moved back to its origins and started a fresh approach to art, décor, mantels and so much more,” said Bonthuys.

“We host some of the country’s most established artists but our vision is to also be a space were young up-and-coming artists can showcase their amazing talents,” said Bonthuys.

“I have an open heart and an open space and anybody that loves art and nature is invited to join in the experience.

“The décor shop was opened 15 years ago, moved to Johannesburg thereafter and operated there for 15 years and we decided to come home,” he said.

He said he wanted a space where he could live out all his passions: art, sculptures, décor, mantel pieces and “create awareness about the conservation fanatic in me”.

The opening was attended by local and international artists whose artworks were also on display from 09:00 to 18:00.
