Water quality in Tshwane improves

“Our water quality became clear from Sunday morning,” says a Little Manhattan resident.

  • Most areas that had brown water coming out their taps, have now been receiving clear and clean water.

Rekord spoke to a Pretoria West resident Anele Nojiwa, who resides in Little Manhattan, who confirmed to the publication that the water quality had improved.

“Our water became clear from Sunday morning. Even today when I left the house, the water was clean,” Nojiwa said.

She said the city had been in constant communication with residents since they reported that dirty water was coming out of their taps.

Lehlohonolo Modiba of Sunnyside said water quality started deteriorating from the taps on Saturday morning.

“We saw the brownish water Saturday morning and it was bad, we were all scared of a recent cholera outbreak.

“But on Sunday we noticed a slight change in the quality of the water, then when we woke up, on Monday morning the water was clear,” added Modiba.

IMPROVEMENT IN THE WATER QUALITY

Councillor Shaun Wilkison told Rekord that he’s been receiving reports from residents about the improvement in the water quality.

“I received reports that water was slowly returning to various places in the east during Sunday.

“The only telemetry I was able to get my hands on, was for yesterday from my neighbour councillor Maas of ward 42,” said Wilkison.

He said residents whose water was brown received their water from Carina reservoir which was supplied by Klapperkop, from Groenkloof to the Moot.

“My ward feeds from the Klapperkop reservoirs. I had no reports of water outages, just low pressure and brown water, but last night and this morning, even though people said the colour is lighter, it was still there.”

Wilkison further advised residents to continue using water sparingly in order to assist the recovering process.

HERE ARE THE WATER LEVELS OF THE RESERVOIRS SO FAR:

  • Carina East – 2.37%

    Carina North – 6.45%

    Carina South – 1.32%

    Klapperkop NE – 6.73%

    Klapperkop North – 15.5%

    Klapperkop south – 6%

    Klapperkop SW – 18%

The metro was made aware of the brownish water coming out from the resident’s taps on Saturday and immediately issued a communication on its social platforms urging residents to filter and boil the water before drinking it.
