Repair of Hillcrest pool begins

The Tshwane metro announced this week that repair work was underway to the Hillcrest municipal swimming pool to bring the it to an acceptable standard.

The pool was temporarily closed on May 1, to allow the metro to properly fix heating faults and water leaks.

Utilities MMC Themba Fosi said that three contractors have been appointed and that repair work began on May 25.

“An estimated time of repair is not yet available, ” Fosi said.

“But once the maintenance work is complete, the pool will be open once again for all to use.”

Residents were, however, cautioned that as long as load-shedding continues, the heaters won’t be able to operate continuously.

“When the maintenance work is finished, maintaining a temperature of 25 °C or above will be a problem, particularly during the winter.

“In this regard, the temperature may not always be warm. As long as the temperature does not fall below 18 °C, the facility may remain open,” Fosi added.

IMPORTANT FACILITY IN TSHWANE

The pool is regarded as an important facility in Tshwane and the metro urged everyone to work together to ensure that it was properly managed and maintained.

For years, the pool has been used by students and athletes for training while many families used it for leisure over the weekend, even during winter.

Fosi promised to continuously monitor the repair work and the facility itself to ensure that the problems that led to its current closure are not experienced again.

The metro wanted to thank residents for their patience during this period of maintenance work.
