Pretoria North water woes continue
“We reported the matter yesterday [Monday], but metro officials didn’t bother themselves attending to the matter," a resident claims.
Tshwane municipality’s water crisis deepens as Pretoria North residents woke up without water on Tuesday.
Resident Smakaleng Motlhabane said it was due to a burst pipe at Berg Avenue just near their complex.
“We reported the matter yesterday, but metro officials didn’t bother attending to the matter.
“We had to improvise this morning (Tuesday) as we had to prepare for work and also get our children ready,” said Motlhabane.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, however, said the metro only received the complaint on Tuesday morning.
He said the metro’s regional maintenance team will attend to the leak today and water will be restored as soon as the repairs are completed.
Mashigo said, according to the metro’s by-laws, it was the residents’ responsibility to ensure they at least have stored water for 24 hours in case of interruptions.
“Every premise which requires, for the work or activity undertaken on the premises, a continuous supply of water must have a water storage tank.
“This tank must comply with the specification for water storage tanks as stipulated in SANS 10252-1 and have a capacity of not less than 24 hours,” he added.
At the same time, traffic is expected to be delayed in the area after another pipe burst was repaired, which resulted in the closure of the left lane towards the east on Rachel de Beer Street.
“There is still a hole that has been cordoned off with tape and yellow barricades – the left lane in Rachel de Beer closed is heading west just before the corner of West Street,” the metro cautioned.
