Metro welcomes all initiatives assisting to make Tshwane work for all

The Tshwane metro is always open to going into partnerships with organisations and communities that want to help make the city a better place, according to mayor Cilliers Brink.

“I am acknowledging every organisation that joined hands with our multiparty coalition government to build a city that works for all residents,” he said.

His remarks came after the Hennops Revival NPO cleaned up the stormwater drains around Centurion in their Adopt-a-Warrior programme.

“Hennops Revival is armed with the understanding of how stormwater drains pollute water bodies as it is now turning its attention to cleaning kerb-side stormwater inlets in the Centurion CBD with their 12 members.”

The Adopt-a-Warrior team managed to clean the 66 inlets as they started with kerb-side stormwater inlets closest to the Hennops River and then worked their way outward.

The initiative was supported by the memorandum of understanding between the Tshwane metro and the Hennops Revival to protect and restore the river.

Brink said that it was important to undertake seasonal maintenance using the dry winter period to prepare for the rainy season ahead.

“Winter maintenance includes cleaning stormwater drains because blocked drains can cause flooding and ponding water, creating dangerous driving conditions, particularly during heavy rainfall.

“Outsurance and Safropol have come on board to support the initiative and I would like to extend my gratitude to them for their support of this initiative.”
