Concerns over Sunnyside residents’ failure to attend CPF meetings

This behaviour makes residents become victims of crime and it contributes to an increase in crime incidences.

The continuous failure of residents to attend CPF meetings in the Sunnyside policing precinct, including Arcadia, contributes to an increase in crime incidences in the areas.

Sector 2 CPF chairperson Themba Dindi warned residents of both Sunnyside and Arcadia about the danger of not involving themselves in the CPF initiative.

“Failure to attend meetings is a huge blow to innocent residents themselves,” Dindi said.

He added that such behaviour has to stop because it makes residents vulnerable.

He said people with little or no knowledge of crime trends in the area were likely to become victim.

“This is because they do not know crime hotspots in the area and, as a result, they move around dangerous places unaware that they are criminal targets.”

Dindi added that this could however change when all community members prioritise the CPF community meetings.

Attending the CPF community meetings has a lot of benefits for society, according to him.

“Community meetings keep residents aware of crime trends in the area and it also serves as a perfect platform for community members to engage in a dialogue with the police in issues related to crime.”

He called on residents to work with the CPF when available and refrain from contacting the CPF only after they have become victim of crime.

Dindi said the CPF did not do enough to encourage people to attend its meetings and know more about the structure.

“We need to plan effective campaigns to ensure that we protect the residents of our area from criminals.”

No CPF meetings have been scheduled at the moment, but Dindi said one was possible for September but residents would be informed in due course.
