Foreign national apprehended in possession of illegal explosives
The quick response by the Hawks led to the arrest of a foreign national in possession of illegal explosives before they reached the destined drop-off in Pretoria.
The Hawks’ tactical operations unit swiftly apprehended a 38-year-old foreign national in possession of illegal explosives in the early hours of Friday October 6.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale said the team, which included the Silverton K9 and forensic science laboratory, received a tip-off that a certain individual was on a bus heading to Johannesburg from Zimbabwe with a consignment of explosives.

She said the team quickly responded and the suspect was arrested on the N14 on ramp to Johannesburg.
“The tip-off also indicated that the explosives were destined for drop-off at Bosman train station in Pretoria,” said Mogale.
On arrival the bus was already leaving for Johannesburg.

Mogale said the bus was contained on the N14 onramp to Johannesburg, where the suspect was arrested, his luggage searched and the explosives discovered.
The suspect will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Monday facing charges of illegal possession of explosives
