Suspect shot dead after car chase

The VW Caravelle driver was shot dead in Sinoville after failing to obey an order to stop and pointing a firearm at a Proshield security guard.

One man was shot dead and another injured after refusing to comply while being stopped by a member of a security company for driving recklessly.

The incident in which a member of Proshield Security Services fired at a VW kombi on the evening of October 10 was reported to the Pretoria North police station.

In a statement to the police, the complainant alleged he was on duty in full uniform, and had booked out the company vehicle ready to respond to emergencies when a white VW Caravelle left the parking area of Gaby’s SPAR in Sinoville, on the corner of Mariana Street and Sefako Makgatho Drive, at a high speed.

The security officer claimed the driver was driving recklessly, forcing other vehicles off the road and had skipped a red traffic light.

He said when he caught up to the vehicle, the driver pointed a firearm in his direction.

Warrant officer Johan van Dyk said the security officer dropped to the ground behind the vehicle and fired five rounds, three at the back window and two at the rear number plate.

The vehicle stopped next to Thulani Lodge and a man got out and ran away.

Pro Med ambulance services arrived on the scene and declared the driver dead.

The passenger was limping and taken to hospital for medical attention.”
