‘Vicious dogs’ maul Mountain View man to death

The man had gone to the veld to collect wood for cooking in preparation for a power outage in the area.

A family in Mountain View, Skierlik in the far east of Mamelodi wants justice for a 42-year-old son mauled to death by vicious dogs on Sunday morning.

The Mhlanga family said Moses Mhlanga met his death when he was attacked by dogs as he fetched firewood in the nearby veld.

Thobile Magagula said her uncle was preparing for the expected power outage on Sunday morning.

“My uncle always fetches firewood whenever he gets a chance or when he is not working. The firewood is for cooking because we are experiencing a lot of power cuts in Mountain View,” said Magabula.

She said the family was not aware what had happened until someone called to announce he was hurt.

“We went to check, only to find his lifeless body… mauled by the vicious dogs,” said Magagula.

The family wants justice while the community says enough is enough about the dogs that attack and kill people who walk past.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Mavela Masondo said the dogs belong to the farm owner who cannot be named because he is yet to be charged or appear in court.

He said the police have opened an inquiry and an investigation to establish the cause of death was under way.

Masondo said once the investigation is complete, the docket will be taken to the National Prosecuting Authority for a decision on whether to prosecute or not.
