Elarduspark residents do their part for the environment

Community members came in numbers to responsibly dispose of their old electronics, glass and plastics.

The Salvage and Recycling company hosted a successful e-waste collection day in Elarduspark on Saturday, January 25.

The initiative drew in a number of community members eager to responsibly dispose of their old electronics, glass, and plastics.

According to Ward 47 Councillor Lida Erasmus, the initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also generates funds for community projects.

“The money earned from recycling these materials helps us support community initiatives and improve the lives of our residents,” Erasmus explained.

Some residents donated appliances still in good condition which were redirected to the Sungardens Hospice, where they will be put to good use.

Resident Johan van Schalkwyk, who donated his old electronics, expressed his enthusiasm for recycling.

“I’d rather give these items away to those in need than see them end up in a dump somewhere,” he said.

“As the city continues to grow, events like these remind us of the importance of responsible waste management and the positive impact it can have on our communities.”

Another resident, Steve Koch, accompanied by his young son, highlighted the importance of instilling environmental awareness in the next generation.

“I want my son to learn about cleanliness and recycling from a young age, so he can teach others and help keep our environment safe and clean.”
