Karatekas achieve medal haul at Shotokan championships
An eastern Pretoria dojo’s students excelled in front of peers and judges, highlighting dedication to training and the tradition of excellence.
Dedicated students of a well-known dojo in the east of Pretoria, Kiritsu Karate, showcased their skills to haul in 70 medals at the recent Shotokan Karate International South Africa (SKISA) Provincial Championships.
The competition, hosted by Kiritsu Karate, brought together top karate practitioners from across the province for a showcase of skill, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Kiritsu Karate’s dedicated students, under the guidance of Sensei Justin du Plooy, demonstrated remarkable talent and dedication, bringing home an impressive number of medals.
“The students managed to get 70 medals, of which we got 19 gold, 26 silver and 25 bronze. This is not a small feat, and it is a testament to the hard work of both the students and instructors,” said Du Plooy.
He said they are incredibly proud of their students.
“Their commitment to their training and their fighting spirit were on full display. This event was not just about winning medals; it was about demonstrating the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance that are at the core of karate.”
He added that hosting the event was a great honour, and he was thrilled with the success of all the participants.
“The achievements of these young athletes underscore Kiritsu Karate’s commitment to nurturing future champions and instilling life-long skills,” Du Plooy added.
He stated that the dojo offers a range of classes for all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced students.
“Kiritsu Karate extends its gratitude to the SKISA organising committee, the referees, and all the participating dojos for making the championships a memorable event.
“The dojo looks forward to building on this success and continuing its tradition of excellence in the martial arts community.”
