All metro clinics achieve platinum status rating
The Ideal Clinic Programme rates clinics on strict national criteria, including infrastructure, staffing, medicine availability, governance, cleanliness, and overall patient care efficiency.
All 25 primary healthcare clinics assessed within the Tshwane Metro have achieved Platinum status in the 2025 Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance (ICRM) assessment cycle.
The Ideal Clinic Programme, a national benchmark introduced to transform the standard of primary healthcare across the country, evaluates clinics using a rigorous set of criteria.
These include infrastructure quality, staffing levels, medicine availability, governance efficiency, infection control measures, cleanliness, and patient flow management.
The MMC for Health Tshegofatso Mashabela said this extraordinary accomplishment reflects relentless dedication, strengthened leadership, and an unwavering commitment to delivering dignified, accessible, and quality healthcare to every resident.
“For every single Tshwane clinic assessed this year to surpass the demanding 80% threshold required for Platinum Status is both historic and inspirational.”
The five top clinics in the metro were Doornpoort (94.17%), Laudium (93.27%), Karenpark (93.18%), Eldoraigne (92.22%), and Nellmapius (92.20%).
Mashabela said even the lowest score among the 25, achieved by Danville Clinic at 80.44%, stands firmly within the Platinum range, a clear indication that excellence is no longer the exception in Tshwane healthcare, but the standard.
She commended the teams behind this achievement.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our healthcare workers, the strength of our management teams, and the effectiveness of our continuous quality improvement strategies,” she said.
“It affirms our commitment to building a healthcare system that truly serves our people with dignity and excellence. Tshwane is not just meeting national standards; we are setting them,” she added.
Mashabela explained that this milestone is especially meaningful at a time when the healthcare sector faces immense pressure, from staffing shortages to rising community health needs.
“Despite these challenges, Tshwane’s clinics continue to demonstrate resilience, innovation, and an unbreakable commitment to patients.”
She emphasised that the department remains resolute in sustaining these high standards and strengthening support to ensure every clinic, regardless of size, location, or resource constraints, continues to uphold and exceed the ideal clinic criteria.
“Work is already underway to ensure that the progress made is not only maintained but accelerated as we expand services, upgrade infrastructure, and improve patient experiences across all regions.”
Mashabela added that the metro celebrates not just scores, but people, nurses, doctors, administrators, cleaners, managers, community health workers, and every staff member who plays a vital role in the functioning of a healthy, caring city.
“This platinum achievement belongs to them and to the residents, they serve with dedication every day. Tshwane stands tall as a national leader in primary healthcare excellence, and this success provides a strong foundation for the continued transformation of public health services across the city.”
