Alleged fraudster advocate set to return to court next week

Police say the woman faces several theft and fraud charges. Victims are urged to come forward.

An advocate, accused of forging documents and deceiving clients for personal financial gain, is expected to appear in court on December 8 as the investigation into the case continues.

The matter was postponed to allow for a formal bail application and further police work after Amoidahh Manamela’s first appearance in the Pretoria Magistrate’s court this week.

Police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk confirmed that detectives from Lyttelton arrested the advocate on December 1.

“She faces several charges of theft and fraud relating to allegations that she created false documents and misled clients.”

According to Van Dyk, investigators believe the scheme allowed her to benefit financially while presenting herself as a trusted legal professional.

Van Dyk explained that Manamela had been evading arrest for a considerable period, and detectives had to work hard to track her down.

“Through thorough and co-ordinated investigative work, detectives successfully traced and apprehended her to ensure she is held accountable for the charges she faces,” he said.

The accused appeared before the Pretoria Central Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Van Dyk said the case was remanded to December 8 to allow for a formal bail application and further investigation.

Police have urged anyone who may have been targeted by the advocate to come forward.

“The SAPS appeals to any individuals who may have been victims of this advocate to contact the investigating officer, Lieutenant-Colonel MS Mathola, at Lyttelton SAPS on 082 715 9583 or 071 675 6421,” added Van Dyk.
