Local leaders share festive wishes with north residents

From police branches to CPF leaders and ward councillors, the call is to celebrate responsibly, stay vigilant, and continue fostering the strong spirit of community that has carried neighbourhoods through the year.

As the festive season approaches, community leaders and safety structures across the northern parts of Tshwane have joined hands to deliver a unified message of gratitude, reflection and safety to residents.

From police branches to CPF leaders and ward councillors, the call is to celebrate responsibly, stay vigilant, and continue fostering the strong spirit of community that has carried neighbourhoods through the year.

Sinoville SAPS has extended its heartfelt appreciation to all residents within its policing precinct for their continued support, unity and good gestures towards the police, Sinoville CPF and the community at large.

In its festive season message, the station reflected on a challenging yet rewarding 2025.

Though the year had its difficulties, several proud moments stood out, from officers going beyond their call of duty to assist a mother giving birth to a healthy baby, to securing an 18-year conviction for a house robber.

Acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Johanna Tema urged residents to be neighbourly and vigilant.

“Please inform trusted friends or family when going on vacation so your household can be looked after.

“Be aware of your surroundings when shopping, and avoid allowing shady characters to assist you. We strongly condemn carrying large amounts of cash,” she said.

She also reminded those living in security estates not to become complacent.

“Even in secure areas, always lock your homes when going to sleep. A false sense of security can make you a target.”

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity through 08600 10111, the MySAPS app, or directly to Sinoville SAPS on 012 543 8800.

Sinoville CPF Chairperson Pierre Briel expressed gratitude to CPF members, neighbours, and SAPS partners.

“This year has truly shown how fortunate we are to live in a community where people care. Everyone’s dedication has made a meaningful difference in keeping our streets safer,” said Briel.

He encouraged residents to stay alert, support one another, and celebrate responsibly throughout the festive period.

Ward 50 Councillor Lenise Breytenbach extended warm wishes to residents and said, “May this time bring you rest, joy, and moments with loved ones. Let’s continue building a safe, united, and caring community”.

Pretoria North CPF Chairperson Oupa Nthite delivered a message focused on unity, resilience, and safety.

Nthite wished all community members a peaceful and joyful festive season, urging residents to slow down and appreciate loved ones while remaining vigilant.

“As we slow down, let’s not keep our guard down. Thank you for the partnership and support throughout the year; it truly makes a difference.”

Nthite acknowledged strengthened community partnerships, rebuilt CPF sector structures, improved communication channels, and enhanced co-operation with SAPS and private security.

“The support from our patrollers has been overwhelmingly amazing. Their unity and commitment stood out.”

Residents are urged to travel safely, avoid drinking and driving, secure their homes, and check on elderly neighbours.

Ward 2 Councillor Quentin Meyer shared a message of gratitude and encouragement.

“I wish every resident a peaceful, joyful, and safe holiday. Thank you for your resilience and commitment this year.”

Meyer highlighted strengthened service delivery, cable theft interventions, streetlight improvements, and support for vulnerable families.

He said Ward 2 also saw increased collaboration with schools, businesses, and community organisations.

Akasia CPF spokesperson Lerato Makwe delivered an extensive festive message and a detailed breakdown of crime trends affecting the area.

“I wish all residents a joyful, peaceful, and safe holiday. Celebrate responsibly, remain vigilant, and continue looking out for your neighbours.”

Akasia CPF has strengthened safety partnerships, increased visibility, expanded outreach programmes, and improved SAPS collaboration.

She said key crime trends in Akasia include housebreaking, theft, armed robberies, hijackings, as well as theft of cables, meters and tyres.

“High risk zones are Orchards Plaza, MacD garage, Buyrite, and spaza shop clusters. There is a medium to high risk with housebreaking, hijacking, and tyre theft most prominent.

“Residents are encouraged to install CCTV, use automated security features, join neighbourhood watch groups and conduct background checks on their workers,” she said.
