Relief as matriculants celebrate their results

Joy, nerves and tears marked matric results day as Class of 2025 learners at Pretoria-Noord and Gerrit Maritz opened their long-awaited envelopes.

Excitement, nerves and raw emotion filled the air as the Class of 2025 gathered at Hoërskool Pretoria-Noord and Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz to receive their long-awaited matric results.

For many learners, the morning marked the end of a demanding 12-year journey, with reactions ranging from joyful celebrations to quiet moments of reflection.

Outside school halls and classrooms, friends embraced, laughter echoed and a few anxious tears were wiped away as sealed envelopes were opened.

“These are not the results I wanted but there’s a chance to upgrade. All I can say is that I’m proud of myself.

“I will go and upgrade and see if I can get better results than the ones I currently have,” said Frans Mputla of Hoërskool Pretoria-Noord.

Another learner James Mhlanga described the moment as overwhelming but rewarding, saying the pressure of the past year finally lifted once the results were in hand.

Shane van den Berg said, “This is a moment I will never forget. It feels like the end of one chapter and the start of something completely new.”

Some learners admitted they were nervous about what lies ahead after school.

“Finishing matric is exciting, I want to do teaching and be able to pass through the information I’ve gathered to other children,” said Didintle Mudau.

Despite different results and plans, a common sense of pride and accomplishment was shared among the Class of 2025.

Many learners expressed gratitude to their teachers, parents and friends for the support they received throughout their matric year.

Megan Lingenfelder said she expected worse results, but fortunately, she managed to get a distinction in one of her subjects.

“There are a few things I wish I [had done] better, but it’s already done. I am glad with what I got.

“The year was fun and stressful at the same time. I am planning to study animation,” she said.
