Quick response to new water leak on Ben Viljoen Street applauded
Ward councillor Quentin Meyer says the leak was treated as a priority.
Pretoria North residents have praised the swift action taken by Tshwane metro water teams following the discovery of a new water leak on Ben Viljoen Street, near the Post Office.
The leak, which caused water to flow all the way down to the corner of Gerrit Maritz and Ben Viljoen streets, prompted immediate emergency repairs.
This section of the street had only recently undergone repairs last month, raising concerns among residents that the current leak could exacerbate existing issues.
Despite the inconvenience, locals expressed appreciation for the quick intervention.
Resident Nomsa Mokoena said, “I have to commend the water teams for responding so quickly. They were on site almost immediately, and it shows they take our concerns seriously.
“I was worried when I saw water running down the street, especially since it was repaired just a few days ago.”
Ward councillor Quentin Meyer confirmed that the leak was treated as a priority given the recent repair work in the area.
“I made the municipality aware that this section of Ben Viljoen Street was recently repaired, and that they had to take every measure to ensure that this new leak is addressed immediately,” said Meyer.
Meyer also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any additional leaks or water-related issues promptly.
He said that this intersection had been a problem for more than two years and was finally fixed.
Thabo Ncube, a resident who lives near the intersection, noted the positive impact of the metro’s responsiveness.
Ncube said this water leak could have caused more problems, “because the water was running towards the direction where the road was recently repaired”.
“Another thing is that it was near the Post Office. The only thing left for now is for them to finish closing off the small hole on the road,” he said.
