500 plates of hope in Mamelodi
Families in need benefit from a local soup kitchen. The volunteers also help drug addicts by referring them to rehab centres.
A total of 500 full warm takeaway meals were served to families and individuals facing hardship who received meals on Wednesday.
This follows after the Tsalanang non-profit organisation held its second annual soup kitchen for the community on February 3.
Secretary Kgothatso Mmakola said that the soup kitchen aims to restore dignity and share compassion where it is needed most.
Mmakola said this initiative builds on unity, generosity, and teamwork where it is needed.
“With great success, we bring hope and practical support to many community members.”
Mmakola emphasised that giving back is central to their mission.
“Serving others is not simply an event but an ongoing responsibility to build a caring and supportive society.
“Bringing hope to the community is something we truly love,” said Mmakola.
Tshepo Ramoncha said the team are volunteers trained to serve with dedication and compassion.
The generous donation and treats were made possible by KitKat, with one goal: to bring food and smiles to many faces.
Mmakola highlighted that they needed more sponsors to expand their reach, serve more families, and strengthen their impact in the community. They are in need of school uniforms, sanitary pads, and toiletries.
They also help cover school books and make sure that underprivileged children get new school shoes.
“Together, we are making an impact and uplifting the community and unemployed youth.”
Ramoncha said Tsalanang means making friends with the community, schools, youth, local organisations, and businesses.
Tsalanang is based in Mamelodi East Ext 6 and is currently working at Pfunzo Ndi Tshedza Primary School for the back-to-school campaign, covering books and donating school uniforms.
“We are also helping drug addicts and helping them go to rehabilitation centres.”
Anyone who wishes to assist with any form of donations can contact Ramoncha at 076 712 7321.
