Dan Patlansky nominated as Best International Artist
Another nomination for Pretoria's Patlansky adds to his many successes.
South African blues-rock artist Dan Patlansky is known for placing local talent on the global stage. Alongside some of the most esteemed figures in the international blues landscape, Patlansky celebrates earning a nomination for the UK Blues Awards 2026.
Recognition in the International Artist of the Year category underscores his committed musicianship, signalling the significance of his music’s international impact.
With over a decade of dedicated touring and 11 studio albums to his credit, Patlansky dedicates a large part of his international attention to his originality.
His latest and internationally praised release, Movin’ On, further cemented his signature reputation by integrating searing guitar work with distinctive vocal harmony. The album has elevated his growing prominence in the UK and Europe. This album was voted #3 Blues Album in 2024.
For South African audiences, the nomination carries particular significance. While blues as a genre has its own characteristic sound, Patlansky has created a realm that feels both true to the tradition and authentically his own. Although representing South Africa on an international stage carries significant responsibility, Patlansky emphasises that, above all, he aims to meet his own expectations.
Rekord reached out to him about his latest nomination, about which he indicated he feels both honoured and pleased.
When discussing why he believes his music resonates with international – and especially European – audiences to such a vast extent, Patlansky accentuates the importance of offering something different. He asserts that their approach to three-part harmony sets them apart from other bands, adding a unique element to his music.
As the UK Blues Awards approach, the nomination alone marks another milestone in a career defined by perseverance and passion. For Patlansky, it is not just recognition – it is confirmation that South African blues continues to resonate far beyond its borders.
