I would like to write a reply to the letter about the so-called troublesome residents that was featured in this week’s paper. I am aware of the vehicles that the writer refers to and I can say that the company that performs the service of lighting into our yards are doing a good and necessary job.
I have joined the CCPU for a minimal amount per month and I feel safer with these guys patrolling my street and keeping an eye on me and my property. I am constantly aware that they are doing their rounds because of the light shining into my yard at regular intervals and personally I would not have it any other way.
On one occasion, I thought there was somebody on my premises. I called the CCPU and within a minute there was a patrol man attending to my call. It has also happened in the past that I was called by the person patrolling to inform me that my gate was open. I arrived home late and never realised that I left the gate unlocked.
After checking my yard, he ensured my gate was closed and that I was safely inside before he left. I shudder to think what could have happened if it were not for this concerned fellow resident.
It goes beyond my understanding how a person can live in this day and age without somebody looking out for them and actually complain when somebody attempts to make a difference in the lives of fellow human beings.
