Before we discover who Jehovah Jireh is to you, let’s review the qualities of Jehovah’s personality.

– He is the Revealing One, revealing His ways to you.

– He is eternal and changeless.

– He is a God of Righteousness and holiness who judges sin.

– He is the God who is full of mercy.

– He is our Redeemer.

In Gen. 22 the name Jehovah Jireh appears for the first time after He showed Himself to Abraham on the basis of meeting His needs. Jehovah Jireh never changes and as He met Abraham’s needs He wants to meet your needs. Remember Jehovah is the eternal, changeless One who reveals His ways to you. By calling Himself Jehovah Jireh, He is saying this: “I do not change – My ways do not change.

“Therefor I desire to meet your needs, just as I met the needs of the children of Israel in their exodus from Egypt.”

The purpose of learning God’s names is not to give you head knowledge of who He is. The reason is to increase the closeness of your relationship with Him. You should know who your God is and He desires to let you know who He is. He wants to reveal Himself in your existence and in your environment so that your needs can be met.

Faith is never a static condition. God causes people to move from faith to faith, from glory to glory and from strength to strength. When God spoke to Abraham to sacrifice His son Isaac, God was giving him an opportunity to move in his faith. As you grow from childhood to adulthood you should also grow in your stature in Christ Jesus.

When God spoke to Abraham to sacrifice Isaac they had been walking together for about 50 years. They had a covenant relationship. God was saying to Abraham in Gen. 22:2: “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love and go to the region of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I will tell you.”

This would be an offering of consecration and this would be the peak of Abraham’s faith. He reckoned that if God could give a childless couple a child when he was 99 years old and his wife Sarah 90 years old, God could also raise his child from the dead. Abraham had the wonderful quality of a man who considered God above his circumstances.

In the Old Testament there were five offerings but only two were mandatory – the trespass offering and the sin offering. The peace offering, the meal offering and the consecration offering were voluntary.

A consecration offering involves consecrating your life and in consecrating his son Isaac Abraham was saying: “I give to God what I love the most.”

On the third day of his journey to Mount Moriah, Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. He was now entering a “visionary” faith realm.

He was as it were, catching a vision of what God wanted him to see.

There are times when God wants us to lift up our eyes and to see the spiritual vision He is giving us.

That is why consecration is so essential, it will keep you sensitive to the things of the Lord. If you have a faith vision you must also have a faith mouth. At a certain place Abraham said to his servants; wait here! Me and my son are going to worship and we will return. On their way Isaac asked his father Abraham: “Father, look the fire and the wood but where is the sacrificial lamb?” and Abraham replied: “My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for the burnt offering” (Gen. 22:8).

Isaac was to be a type of the Son of God, provided by the Lord, who would redeem mankind by giving Himself in sacrifice on the cross. When you pray, believe that you will see God’s provision just like He provided a lamb for Abraham to sacrifice. After the lamb had been provided for Abraham, he looked at the place and gave it a name, “Jehovah Jireh, The Revealing One who is more than a Provider”.

This says that God has looked ahead and made provision to fill your need. If you are in the midst of a trail right now, lift up your eyes and say… God, you saw ahead and knew that I would encounter this crisis.

Now I need your provision for it. After the lamb was provided for Abraham as a sacrifice, Abraham said something even greater about God’s provision: “In the mount of the Lord is shall be seen.” Other translations say: “He shall be seen” and yet another translation: “The provision shall be seen.” Believe that! Amen.
