Matsatsantsa crush Arrows
SuperSport United hammered Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday night.
SuperSport United maintained their good position in the league this season when they thrashed the Durban-based club, Golden Arrows, 3-1 in the Absa Premiership match at Atteridgeville’s Lucas Moripe Stadium.
In a game that took place on Saturday night, Matsatsantsa a Pitori climbed three places to second position in the league table after they impressively handed Arrows their sixth defeat in nine matches.
The Tshwane-based soccer team got their opening goal from Bennett Chenene in the 10th minute of play after he collided with Arrows goalkeeper Gumede Nkosingiphile, before giving a knee to the ball, which gave his side the lead.
But the hosts’ joy was short-lived as Abafana Bes’thende equalised through Philani Shange in the 20th minute.
The rampant United continued with their attacking mindset, which rewarded them when Bradley Grobler scored just before the hour mark.
Two minutes later, Matsatsantsa’s midfielder, David Mathebula, fired a long-range strike from stunned Arrows goalkeeper, Nkosingiphile, before it hit into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Mathebula’s great form this season also resulted in him being shortlisted for the prominent Goal.com’s World Player of the Week title recently.
Other candidates include Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Heung-Min Son from the German Bayer Leverkusen, Hernane Flamengo and Tim Krul from England’s Newcastle United, who walked away with the coveted title.
