Titans through to semi-finals
After an erratic season thus far, on Sunday The Unlimited Titans managed to qualify for the semi-finals in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge.
With a little luck and a great performance against the Knights in Kimberley, The Unlimited Titans eventually made it through to the semi-final in the T20 Ram Slam Challenge. Henry Davids and his men beat the Knights convincingly with eight wickets in Kimberley on Sunday. At the same time, the Cape Cobras defeated the Warriors in Cape Town and consequently prevented the Eastern Cape side from ending above the Titans on the log.
This scenario was exactly what The Unlimited Titans had hoped for. Eventually they ended third on the log, which means that they will play against the Dolphins in the semi-final on Wednesday, 5 February in Durban. If the Titans manage to win this semi-final match, they will not only qualify for the final in Cape Town against the Cape Cobras, but also, for the third time in a row, qualify for the wealthy international Champions League tournament later this year.
One of the stars of Sunday’s game against the Knights in Kimberley was young Theunis de Bruyn, who got his first chance at top level. This former pupil of Hoërskool Menlopark and former SA u.19 star has been waiting for a chance to make his breakthrough and when he got in on Sunday, he seized it with both hands. His innings of 53 runs off 37 balls included two fours and three sixes.
Henry Davids played a captains-innings himself with his knock of 42 runs from 36 balls. The Titans imported Pakistani spinner, Saeed Ajmal, to do his part with the ball in hand. He was The Unlimited Titans’ best bowler again, removing three of the Knights’ players in his four overs.
