SSU outshine amaTuks
The University of Pretoria suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership match last Friday.
SuperSport United defeated their rivals, the University of Pretoria, 1-0 in an entertaining Absa Premiership League match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium last Friday evening.
The match started on a high note, with both teams eager to be the best Tshwane side, however, it was Matsatsantsa that opened the scoring in the first eight minutes of the match thanks to Lebogang Manyama.
Manyama put Tuks’ goalkeeper, Washington Arubi, into action with a powerful header in the 18-area box. In the 65th minute, SuperSport had to play with one man down after referee Thabo Nkosi issued Aupa Moeketsi a red card for fouling Ronald Ketjijere. Matsatsantsa wasted a number of goal-scoring opportunities.
They received a wonderful opportunity to find the back of the net in the 74th minute after Dino Ndlovu beat the keeper in the 18-area box and faced the empty woodwork. Captain Tebogo Monyai came from the right wing at full speed and cleared the ball from the danger zone.
On numerous occasions, they failed to pass the ball on time.
They launched brilliant attacks, but finished these poorly. In the 81st minute, Bennet Chenene ran with the ball from the centre to the box, but failed to pass it to an unmarked Ndlovu on the left, who was in the perfect position to extend the lead. According to the Absa Premiership log standings of 4 February, Matsatsantsa moved to second place on the log with 26 points in 16 matches.
Heading the log are Kaizer Chiefs with 36 points. AmaTuks are in 11th with 17 points.
