Medihelp Sunrise Monster an excellent Comrades conditioner
Apart from being an excellent Comrades conditioner for serious runners, the Medihelp Sunrise Monster is also a popular event for families and spectators cheering on participating friends, colleagues, family and team members.
This year’s Medihelp Sunrise Monster road race at the Harlequins Club in Pretoria will take place on Saturday, 1 March.
This is the 37th year that the race will be run and its growing participation has organisers expecting more than 7 000 runners and over 2 000 spectators.
“The Medihelp Sunrise Monster has become one of the most popular events on the national road running calendar,” said Geoff Hesse, chairman of the organising club, Harlequin Harriers. “The event offers three separate races: the main race, the Medihelp Sunrise Monster over 32 km, a Medihelp Mini Monster with a distance of 10km and a 5km Medihelp Baby Monster for families and everyone who is health-conscious and enjoys walking or running in one of the most beautiful settings South African road races have to offer. The starting time for the main race is set at 06:03 as this is exactly when the sun rises, hence its name. The 10km run starts at 06:30, while the 5km starts at 06:40,” said Hesse.
Apart from being an excellent Comrades conditioner for serious runners, it is also a popular event for families and spectators cheering on participating friends, colleagues, family and team members. Part of the Medihelp Sunrise Monster’s unique attraction is the beautiful route through the Groenkloof Nature Reserve and the hills of Monument Park. The route is well-marshalled with watering points at approximately three kilometre intervals. Participants are encouraged to wear something green on the day, which is one of Medihelp’s corporate colours. By participating in the Go Green competition, they stand a chance of winning a cash prize for the best dressed individual and family.
Pre-entries close on 26 February and are available at a variety of outlets in Pretoria and Johannesburg, as well as online at www.entrytime.com . Late entries, temporary license entries and pre-entry collection will be available at Harlequin’s club fields on 28 February between 16:00 and 19:00 and on the morning of the race from 04:30.
