From 19 to 27 July Pretoria’s renowned golf adventurer, Heinrich du Preez, will trade his golf cart for a tractor and trailer to embark on his latest golf-related record attempt. Du Preez’s aim will be to play a round of golf in all nine provinces in just nine days. Under normal circumstances this will not seem to be such a difficult challenge, but the twist in this story is that Du Preez will approach the project using a huge tractor. “The top speed of this beautiful machine is the same as a standard golf cart, only 35km/h,” he told Rekord. So it should be tough enough to travel the 2 000km in just nine days and squeeze in nine complete rounds of golf while doing it. The reason behind this epic road trip is to raise funds for the world’s only rhino orphanage at The Wildlife and Cultural Centre at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort in Limpopo. This facility looks after baby rhinos who’s mothers have been killed by poachers. The trip will cover all nine South Africa’s provinces and the courses he will be playing – in this order – will be as follows: Beaufort West Golf Club (Western Cape), Richmond Golf Club (Northern Cape), Middelburg Golf Club (Eastern Cape), Clarens Golf Club (Free State), Ladysmith Golf Club (KwaZulu-Natal), Graceland Casino and Golf Resort (Mpumalanga), Woodhill Country Club (Gauteng), Seasons Eco Golf Estate (North West) and lastly Legends Golf Resort in Limpopo. Travelling at a maximum speed of 35km/h the going will be tough since he will have to travel way into the night and get up early on most days. He will spend close to 100 hours on the road during the nine days. On 29 July Du Preez and his sponsors will be hosting a golf day at the Woodhill Golf Estate in Pretoria to raise additional funds.
