Athletes who are busy practicing for the SPAR Womans Challenge are welcome to consider to participate in this weekends annual Wieries Road Race. This is the ideal race to train for the Spar Ladies. Like the Spar, it is fast and flat (except for the first 1-2 kilometers) and it also meanders through the suburbs of Lyttleton, Doringkloof and Die Hoewes. This year will be the fifth consecutive year that the Wierda Park Laerskool under the auspices of Alpha Centurion Runners & Walkers (ACRW) will present the road race. The venue is once again the Centurion Mall in Heuwel Avenue, Centurion, a five minute walk from the Centurion Gautrain Station The number of athletes competing in this race has grown in leaps and bounds from 1200 to 3500 and runners/walkers of all fitness levels can join this year’s race. Runners/walkers have a choice of a 21.1 half marathon, a 10km race, a 5km funrun of a 2km run/walk. Both the 21km half marathon and the 10km run will start at 06:30 and the 5km and 2km fun run at 07:00 All unregistered athletes competing in the half marathon or the 10km race will need to purchase a temporary license. Pre-entries can be done on www.entrytime.com, at the Centurion Mall info kiosk, at Laerskool Wierda Park or at Running Inn, Run-a-Way Sport, or The Sweat Shop (Southdowns). Goody bags to the first 2000 pre-entries only. Spur kiddies voucher for the 2km & 5km entrants. All finishers will receive a medal.
