Speaking to Rekord on Thursday, De Bruyn said he was overwhelmed and honoured.
“The feeling is still fresh in my memory, it has been a lifetime dream for me to play for my country and I’m grateful to have been called-up,” he said.
De Bruyn represented the SA A squad during his time at the Titans before moving to the VKB Knights.
“I have gained a lot of experience and I think the call-up came at the right time,” said De Bruyn.
“I have matured since moving to the Knights, it gave me a bit more freedom and I also got out of my comfort zones.”
The former Tuks cricketer, has an average of 48 in first class cricket with seven centuries to his name.

“Obviously I want to keep improving as a player, so for the next week, I’ll just have to prepare myself and we’ll see what happens,” he said.
“If it’s meant to be, perhaps I’ll get an opportunity [to play].”
He thanked his parents for giving him the platform to build a career in cricket.
“When I got the news, I informed my parents immediately,” he said.
“They were the ones who invested their time and money in me so that I could play the game.”
If De Bruyn gets an opportunity to play, he will become the first Menlo Park High school player to represent the Proteas.
The Proteas take on Sri Lanka in the three-match Sunfoil Test series from 26 December.
