Sport highlights 17-19 February

Local cricket and football will be the main attractions for local sports fans this weekend.

With only one week before the Super Rugby season starts, sports fanatics are also spoiled this weekend with the start of the domestic Momentum one-day cricket series.

Cricket

The last of the three domestic tournaments, the Momentum one-day competition, starts this weekend.

The Titans play their first game at home against the Dolphins on Friday.

The action starts at 14:00 at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Rugby

While Bulls fans will have to wait one more week to see their favourite team in action, the Tuks Varsity Cup team have already won their first two matches.

They take on UJ in Johannesburg on Monday night.

The game starts at 19:00 and will be broadcast on SuperSport.

Meanwhile, TUT were victorious in their first game in the Varsity Shield.

They will play their second game on Monday night at home at the TUT campus in Pretoria West.

The action starts at 18:30.

Football

The Premier Soccer league continues this weekend and the two local teams will both be in action.

Unfortunately, for fans who want to see both teams in action they play at exactly the same time, at 20:15 on Saturday.

SuperSport United will take on Maritzburg United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Mamelodi Sundowns will face Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg.

Athletics

The annual Bestmed Tuks race will take place this Saturday at the Tuks Athletics stadium.

The event consists of a 21km half-marathon, a 10km road race and a 5km fun run.

The half-marathon starts at 06:00, the 10km race follows at 06:30 and the fun run will start at 06:40.

Next week is also a big week for schools athletics in Pretoria, with three inter high events taking place.

All three events will be held at the Pilditch stadium in Pretoria West.

The C league events will take place on Tuesday, followed by the B league on Thursday and the top schools from the A league will compete against each other on Friday.
