Metro employees blow off steam in soccer match
Participating were four metro departmental teams.
In an effort to boost employee morale and keep their minds refreshed, the Tshwane metro hosted a soccer tournament in Soshanguve on Saturday.
Participating were four departmental teams including City of Tshwane Finance FC and Mabopane Metro Police FC who played against each other.
Finance FC dominated the opening stages of the match held at Phillip stadium in Soshanguve block L on Saturday, with striker Thabo Nkuna scoring the opening goal.
Thabo Masemola equalised for the Police FC, but Finance took the lead again when Hlako Ngoape scored a penalty to round up the first half 2-1.
Ten minutes into the second half, Dlozi Sibanyoni increased the lead for the Finance team, forcing Metro Police FC coach to make changes to his team.
Coach Tsietsi Joseph Makila’s move to introduce striker Tirelo Lentsoane paid off when Masemola reduced the deficit to make the score 3-2.
Finance FC coach David Matsimela said the game was difficult because his side did not have enough players to effect substitutions.
“We started the game very well, but the problem is that we could not change players,” said Maimela.
“We played with the same players from the beginning until the end because our players were injured and some are still tired from a previous game in the morning.”
Finance FC captain Thomas Mhlanga said his team would win other tournaments in future.
“My team is very strong and I believe that we are going to win the other matches,” said Mhlanga.
“We thank our municipality for organising such a great tournament for staff. It really encouraged us to do our job very well in the municipality.”
Organiser Francis Rapetsoa said the metro had hosted the challenge for the first time and will continue to do so annually.
