The Titans are within reach of a top-three position in the local Momentum one-day series after their excellent victory with 21 runs against the Knights in Kimberley on Friday.

Impressive performances by veteran Jacques Rudolph (119 from 135 balls) and the new face in the team, the former Knights star, Dean Elgar (98 from 45 balls), laid the foundation for the eventual excellent total of 330/4 that the Titans reached.

Captain Henry Davids (51 from 56 balls) and the young rising star Theunis de Bruyn (46 from 57 balls) also did their part to strengthen the Titans’ position.

The Knights’ batsmen had to chase a run rate of 6,6 per over. Although men like Reeza Hendricks (77 from 53 balls) and Obus Pienaar (63 from 63 balls) did their best, the onslaught of the Titans bowlers was this time in line with the example of their batsmen.

With the exception of Davids, who only bowled three overs, all the Titans’ bowlers had success with the ball. They took eight wickets between the six of them. Although Davids could not take a wicket, he could at least boast with the most economical bowling figures.

The Knights were eventually all out for 309 runs in the 49th over and the Titans could return home with four valuable league points in the bag.

Davids and his men are now just two league points behind the Highveld Lions and three behind the Dolphins, while they played a game less than the Johannesburg team.

This scenario means that the Titans’ fate is still in their own hands. All they need to do to reach the semi-finals of this series is to keep on winning in their remaining four league fixtures.

The Titans’ next game is on Friday in Cape Town against the leaders in the series, the Cape Cobras.
