Safa takes a stand against xenophobia
Safa plans to organise two international friendlies to help raise awareness of xenophobia and take a stand against it.
The South African Football Association (Safa) plans to arrange two international friendlies against neighbouring countries in order to restore hope and unity after recent xenophobic attacks in the country, Safa announced on Sunday.
Safa CEO Dennis Mumble said the games would be an important tool in uniting the continent. “We want to use the two high-profile international friendly matches as an instrument to unite this continent. The xenophobia of recent weeks has left most people in a state of shock and dismay,” he said.
Safa will announce the details of the two matches in the next few days.
These matches will showcase that South Africa is against xenophobic attacks, which have, so far, resulted in seven foreigners being killed and thousands being left homeless.
