It’s time again for The Wally, Centurion’s own marathon
The famous Wally is a standard marathon traditionally ran through the streets of Centurion on workers day.
The Rockets Wally Hayward marathon that will be held for the 39th year on the morning of 1 May 2015 at Hoërskool Zwartkop is different from most races because it focuses on fun for everyone and community involvement.
In particular, proceeds from the marathon will be for the benefit of six struggling charities.
The Rockets Wally Hayward marathon caters for all ages and levels of fitness. It starts with a 1km race for children under 12 to support the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA) and ends with a 42.2 km marathon, which is the final Comrades marathon qualifier in Gauteng for 2015. This race will start at 06:30.
In between athletes can choose among a range of distances, including a 4.9km fun run, a 10km race and a 21.1km half marathon. All races will start and end at Hoërskool Zwartkop.
The 4,9km fun run will start at 07:00 and includes a fancy dress competition. Great prizes are up for grabs.
Interested parties who have not entered for this fun-run yet, can do so on 30 April between 14:00 and 19:00 at Hoërskool Zwartkop. Latecomers can also still register for the fun-run on the morning.
