Another Tshwane derby looms

Another Tshwane derby this weekend, as Supersport host Tuks at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Supersport United and University of Pretoria football sides will lock horns on Sunday, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Both sides are struggling this season and rooted in the second half of the Absa Premiership table.

Matsatsantsa appointed Stuart Baxter as head coach in late January, but in their last two matches, have seen results. After a hard-fought away win over Free State Stars two weeks ago, it looked as if the Pretoria side were back on track only for that hope to come down crashing in a humiliating 3-1 defeat at home on Sunday against Ajax Cape Town.

Supersport came from a goal down to equalise just before the end of the first half but a goal from Toriq Losper saw the Urban Warriors restore their lead. The game untimely ended 3-1 to the visitors.

Amatuks on the other hand have a mountain to climb if they are to avoid relegation this season. The students have only had three wins in18 games and are just a point behind 14th-placed Jomo Cosmos.

Sunday’s match could be a season-defining game for both teams. Matsatsantsa are eight points clear of Tuks, and if things don’t go their way in the match, they can always play to a draw but for the students it’s a different story altogether — they have to win at all costs.
