Table Tennis Legends Invitational champion crowned

The local Play Table Tennis Legends Invitational champion for 2019 was crowned recently.

Ruan Kahts was once again crowned Play Table Tennis Legends Invitational champion.

This was his third such title for the year out of the four events held. The one title he missed was the one in April, when he didn’t participate.

Kahts defeated a different opponent in each final. First it was Marius Morkel in January, then Kobus Heyns in July, and now Mahomed Shaffe in the latest event, which was the 11th edition overall.

This event attracted 32 of the best players through the strictest qualifying criteria, and started with group stages followed by knockout rounds, and Kahts went undefeated in seven matches.

Kahts has dominated the Elite Series as well, winning all three of the three-week instalments so far. The Elite Series is the highest weekly competition available in the Play Table Tennis structures.

Two standout players from the Super Series recently earned promotion to the next Elite Series, namely Pieter Marais and Brendon Poonsamy. They will rub shoulders with another six of the best players over the next three legs, where after the last-placed two players will be relegated back to the Super Series.

Thirteen upcoming players were drafted into the eight different teams in the Super Series after the last round, which has become a great vessel for grassroots player development.

Play Table Tennis also caters for complete beginners, helping players hone their skills and improve through regular participation against players of similar level. For more information please visit www.playtabletennis.co.za.
