Time for another Voortrekker Monument half marathon
The second edition of the Voortrekker Monument half marathon promises to be a ground-breaking event with an environmentally friendly approach to water points.

The second edition of the Voortrekker Monument half marathon will be presented on Saturday, 23 November 2019 at the Voortrekker Monument.
This popular road race, which originated from the commemoration of the Voortrekker Monument’s 18th birthday last year, is already well known amongst the road running community as a tough race that will test the abilities of all athletes.
The race will commence at six o clock at the stairs leading to the Voortrekker Monument, and the entire route will be staged within the boundaries of the Voortrekker Monument’s Nature Reserve and Heritage sight.
Athletes can also register for a ten-kilometre race and a five-kilometre fun run. Online entries can be done at www.entrytime.com while late entries will be accepted at the Voortrekker Monument the day before the race from 14:00 to 18:00 and the morning of the race from 04:00 to 06:00.
The challenging route includes some of the capitols well known landmarks such as the Wall of Remembrance, The Heritage Centre, Fort Schanskop, The Amphi Theatre and the Danie Theron Statue.
Athletes will throughout the race be treated with breath-taking panoramic views of the Jacaranda City, and for most part of the route have a spectacular view of the Voortrekker Monument.
The majority of the route will be on tar and cement surface, while participants will also have to deal with the steps of the Amphi Theatre. Athletes will receive just reward for partaking in this popular but challenging event, by receiving a medal with the image of the Voortrekker Monument on it, which already proves to be a collector’s item.
The Voortrekker Monument Halfmarathon is organized by the Voortrekker Monument Running Club which in the past have organized esteemed races such as the Springbok Vasbyt-, Ou Voetpad- and Muller Potgieter Memorial Races.
The organizers will embrace new territory this year with the staging of the event as a green race. It means that the event will be the first environment friendly race in Pretoria, where the water sachets will be phased out and replaced by water tanks at the start of the race and at other water points. Participants can then fill up their own bottles and they are therefore requested to bring along their own water bottles to race.
It is anticipated that this bold initiative will hopefully have a positive impact on the environment.
