Silver Lakes Golf Club plays host to Solar Classic Pro-Am
Top seed Chris Williams left all opposition behind on the scoreboard this weekend when he won the Solar Classic Pro-Am, which replaced the Sunshine Tour's Senior Masters tournament, at the Silver Lakes Golf Club in Pretoria.
The 62-year-old native Englishman, Chris Williams, won the Solar Classic Pro-Am golf tournament at the Silver Lakes Golf Course in the East of Pretoria this past weekend.
Although born in England, Williams has lived on the East Rand in South Africa since 1978.
The new Solar Classic Pro-Am replaced the Senior Masters on the Sunshine Senior Tour this year.
Over the first two days the Pro-Am event has been completed and was made up of the top 30 senior professionals and 90 competitive amateurs from various companies.
The Senior professionals played three rounds in total with a cut after the second round to the top 30. These 30 competed on the third day for a share of the prize fund of R150,000.
Excellent weather conditions prevailed throughout the duration of the tournament with a late afternoon storm just missing the players on day two.
Williams won his fourth title on the European Senior Tour with this victory. He destroyed his opposition to eventually win with a score of -7, which was seven strokes better than Mark Bright (0) and André Cruse (0), the two players who shared second place by both on equal footing to end.
Williams ended his brilliant three days on the course with an eagle (3) on the 18th hole of the Silver Lakes course.
