Klaasen shines with the bat as Titans overpower newcomers in 4-Day Domestic Series

The Titans moved up to third place on the log in the CSA four-day series, after a good 8-wicket victory against the North West Dragons in Potchefstroom last week.

The Titans’ stalwart batsman/wicketkeeper, Heinrich Klaasen, followed up a first innings century (128) with an unbeaten fifty to help his team seal an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the North West Dragons in their Cricket South Africa (CSA) 4-Day Domestic Series match in Potchefstroom on Saturday.

With this victory, Mandla Mashimbyi’s team moved up to third place on the log.

Klaasen smashed an 82-ball 71* in a 121-run partnership with Grant Mokoena, who finished on 50*, to help his side stroll to their victory after the away side dismissed the Dragons for 231 in their second innings to leave them needing 132 runs to win.

The Dragons’ second innings was inspired by Heino Kuhn’s 26th career hundred (119 off 167 balls) in First Class cricket, while Lizaad Williams (3/16) was the pick of the bowlers with an impressive return to limit the hosts.

The men from Centurion already built up a lead of 99 runs in their first innings, thanks to Klaasen’s century.

Sibonelo Makhanya (40 off 90 balls) and Corbin Bosch (25 off 58 balls) were the only two men to record significant scores with Klaasen during the Titans’ first innings.

Simon Harmer (5/20 in the first innings and 2/52 in the second innings) was the other Titans bowler who assisted Williams well. The latter also took three wickets (3/43) in the home team’s first innings.
