Gauteng Jaguars crowned champions again in the Telkom Netball League

Pretoria is still the country's top Netball city, after the Gauteng Jaguars were last week crowned champions again of South Africa's premier netball tournament, the Telkom Netball League.

The three-month long local 2023 Telkom Netball League had fans coming from all parts of South Africa to celebrate and witness the countries national netball talent.

After the completion of the league phase, it was finally the Gauteng Jaguars from Pretoria and the Free State Crinums from Bloemfontein who qualified to face each other in the final to determine the champion of Division A.

The thrilling netball event came to a celebratory end with the Gauteng Jaguars being crowned as champions after beating the Free State Crinums. The final score was 59-51.

The final was an unforgettable occasion. The atmosphere in the arena was electric, with a sea of enthusiastic fans filling the stands. Their unwavering support and infectious energy added an extra dimension to the already intense competition, creating an atmosphere that will be remembered for years to come.

Sharing her thoughts on the impact that the Telkom Netball League has on the development of netball in South Africa, Masingita Mazibuko, CSB Brand & Marketing at Telkom, said this league provides a platform for South Africa’s finest netball talent to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.

She believes that the Telkom Netball League also serves as an opportunity for young players to be inspired by the top athletes and to consider netball as a viable career path.

“Telkom firmly believes that sport in general, and netball in particular, can be a catalyst for positive social change and ultimately the development of a prosperous future for our country,” Mazibuko remarked.

This year the Telkom Netball League  served as a remarkable stage to showcase the talent possessed by all 15 participating teams in the two divisions. With the exciting addition of the Free State Sonoblomo and the Limpopo Lillies, the league expanded its reach and brought forth even greater competition.
