Public invited to participate in clay pigeon shooting tournament

The Wattlesprings Sports club is hosting their inaugural ultimate clay pigeon shooting competition east of Pretoria later this month and interested prospective participants are invited to register for this exciting event as soon as possible.

Wattlesprings Sports club invites all amateur and professional clay pigeon shooters to register to take part in its inaugural Wattlesprings Cup.

This unique event takes place at Wattlespring Sports Shooting Club in Bronkhorstspruit in the far eastern part of Tshwane from 21-24 March 2024.

The competition is open to local and international sports shooters.

Clay Pigeon shooting is an Olympic-recognised sport that is ever-growing in South Africa, while internationally the sport has seen many competitors travel globally for a chance to win titles, prize money and glory.

The objective is for the shooter to hit the clay targets as they are thrown up into the air from traps. The discipline the shooter is competing in will determine the layout and speed that the trap throws clays. The purpose is to hit the clay in mid-air before it hits the ground.

Arnoux Maré, owner of Wattlespring Sports Club said the Wattlespring Cup tournament promises to be a memorable event for new and seasoned shooters.

This is a multidisciplinary Clay Pigeon Shooting event, which will allow amateur and professional shooters to compete in a multitude of disciplines,” Maré explained.

The event will have international status, since it will attract shooters from neighbouring countries such as Namibia and Botswana to name a few.

“We will also have esteemed shooters Bernadette Quinn and Maura Welsh from Ireland competing alongside the local and international shooters for the cash prize of over R250 000 and additional prizes of over R200 000 in lucky draws,” Maré promised.

The competition, which boasts some top sponsors, aims to cater for all members of the family, not just the shooters.

“Bring the whole family along for a fun day filled with live entertainment, delicious food which will be sold at the Wattlesprings Restaurant and an on-site curated exhibition of leading brands and products relevant to the sport,” Maré elaborated.

Wattlespring aims to increase the enthusiasm and participation in Clay Pigeon shooting as a sport.

“Clay Pigeon shooting is for anyone with a passion for the outdoors and a desire to learn a new skill. Regardless of your gender, age, or fitness level, this is a sport that anyone can participate in and learn to excel in,” Maré concluded.

The Wattlespring Cup will be an event worth attending with plans to continue as an annual event growing in prizes, entertainment, and international interest.
