Teacher bids farewell
Teachers and pupils of Tshimollo Primary School bade farewell to their 60-year-old teacher, Sannah Mashiane recently. Mashiane had been a teacher at the school for 38 years.
Pupils and teachers of Tshimollo Primary School in Mamelodi West said farewell to one of the school’s best teachers, Sannah Seapei Mashiane, recently. The farewell party was held on the school’s premises last Friday.
The 60-year-old teacher finally said goodbye to her colleagues and pupils after 38 years of working for the Department of Education and the school. Mashiane started teaching at Tshimollo Primary School in 1974, and remained a teacher there until her last working day. Principal Jonny Leshika, teachers and pupils sang, danced and recited poems for the beloved teacher.
In her response, Mashiane said she worked well with the teachers and the pupils and she was going to miss them a lot.
“I will miss the friendliness, love, respect and educational tours we used to go on, amongst others, but mostly I will miss the pupils, because teaching is my passion. But I will visit, and when they need help, I will always be there to help them,” she said. A former pupil who is now also a teacher at Tshimollo Primary School, Jane Masemola (37), said that she learned a lot from Mashiane and she was privileged to have been taught by her and to have worked with her.

“It is a great opportunity to work with a teacher who used to teach me, who showed me how to write and read. It is an honour,” Masemola said.
Grade 7 pupil, Palesa Tlale (12), said that she would miss Mashiane very much and hoped that the teacher would change her mind about retirement and return to the school.
Principal John Leshika said that he had lost a great teacher and that everyone would miss her. “I tried to change her mind, but when it is time to go…it is time to go,” he added.
